Naviglio Grande

I love this part of Milan it's such a good place to know and it was filled so many different dining experiences it's really hard to say it's like any of the other places in Italy.

I guess it is fair to compare it to some of the dining around Monostiraki square in Athens - it had a fair amount of international variety, especially for an Italian dining district, where the Italian dining options typically stick very close to traditional Italian staples.

That said, this is the largest Canal in the Navagli district and its got its own unique colour palette especially at peak times in the sunsets when I usually chose to visit, after the days cooled down a bit at around 8pm.

In addition to the nighttime visits I came back for a visit at breakfast and ordered a massive double cappuccino, pictured below, and got some daytime shots around the canal and restaurants.

It was such a lively place and worth visiting a few times if you find yourself in Milan. There are so many venues to try and so much variety I think as a local you would end up trying at least five or six before settling in to your favorites.

I'm looking forward to the next chapter of gitarellas because although I will continue to seek out the tried and true combination of spritz, pizza and pasta I will be mixing this with some excellent outdoor adventures off-the-beaten-track.
