Hoi An: Ancient Town and Lanterns After Dark

29 October 2026 · 1 minute read

Well, I finally finished my deliverable and am ready to resume exploration. It's a good thing, to be honest. I was really getting a little bit sick of the daily grind and having to constantly find new hotels. Once I found the Pergola I decided to stay there, but that was towards the end of the time I wanted to spend in Da Nang. I kept having to push my stay back two days at a time, which got pretty old, because you're not guaranteed to get a room and you have to keep moving — and I wasn't sure how long things were gonna take.

Anyway, I finally finished and dropped down to Hoi An, where I'm staying for a couple of nights. This is Vietnam's famous tourist district of Central Vietnam, where they have all sorts of activities along the river here and thousands of stalls selling various suits and leather products. And rice fields — so very many rice fields. Here are some photos as I walked into the town and started exploring the tourist district of Ancient Town.

Hoi An is also famous for its food, and there is so much available here. Because of the tourist focus, it's actually probably one of the better places to eat in Vietnam. You do pay a little bit more, but they really put on a show.

After dinner, I set about getting some sunset pictures of the famous Ancient Town river area.

Then the sun went down and the lanterns came on.

Hoi An's okay for a hangout spot. But now that working is done, I'm getting a little bit bored of just living around city areas and wanting to go adventuring. Stay tuned to see how I go with that.
