Dark Light

Hakone is a little rural mountain town south of Tokyo famous for its Tori Gate, its Shrine and its views of Mt. Fuji. It was a little bit of a trek to get here, as you have to take a private bus through winding mountains, plus it was fairly cold. Nevertheless, we were resolved to get the famous views of Mt. Fuji, so we arrived and started getting acquainted with the town.

We missed the bus to Hakone-en, which is where you go to get the iconic photos of Mt Fuji, so we ended up walking for about half an hour to get to the cable car that takes you up Mt Komagatake. We timed it rather well however, and were treated to great views of Mt Fuji in the afternoon sun.

It was a bit of a trek, but I’m still happy with how this day turned out. It’s always nice to get a trip into a spot that’s usually crowded at a time when not many people are there. Maybe one day I’ll be back to climb Mt Fuji, but in the meantime I’m content with the view we got from Mt Komagatake.
