Thira or ‘Fira’ is one of the main parts of Santorini where you get a beautiful cliff face with Cycladic architecture and a view of Santorini’s old and new volcanoes.
Before I move to cooler pastures I spent the day roaming around here amongst the tourists to get a feel for the place. Here’s what I saw.
It’s starting to get really hot here – they’re talking about record summers on the news and a heatwave gripping Europe. Despite the heat and the fact that you can’t walk 200m without breaking a sweat the island was teeming with tourists soaking up the afternoon sun.
Eventually I settled into the views with a bucket of ice, some ouzo and a plate of gyros. It wasn’t a bad way at all to settle into the afternoon before heading back to the mainland to continue my journey.
