Dark Light

It wouldn’t be a trip to Athens proper without a visit to the the Parthenon and the Theater of Dionysus – it’s hard to miss them towering over the rest of the city.

In addition to the views from the top, the Theater is an incredible piece of history that I learned about in school when we studied the Greek tragedies. I had seen photos of it before but it was different actually seeing it in person because of the understanding of the actual scale of the place – much smaller and more intimate than I imagined from the photos I’d seen.

The next day, I did an audio walking tour with my travel buddies and we made our way through the city with a brief history lesson which was an interesting change of pace to my travels so far. These shots are from the Roman Agora (Forum) and some of the alleyways the tour route took us through.

Athens has been an interesting contrast to the Italian destinations I’ve visted thus far, but it’s going to get obscenely hot here soon. One more stop and then I’ll be looking at what the next leg might be – haven’t even planned it yet so stay tuned.
