Sirmione is a spectacular and iconic town on Lake Garda. Despite this, I didn’t have high expectations that I would absolutely love a visit here. Don’t get me wrong I love a good castle – but like everything on this trip it’s always been the hidden gems that offer outstanding experiences. While Sirmione might be one of Lake Garda’s treasured gems – it’s anything but hidden.
I cycled here from Pescheria della Garda which was a nice little lakeside ride mixed some with some traffic, you get some views of the Castle from a distance on approach as pictured below.
The town offered beautiful architecture and eateries, but was absolutely saturated in tourists. It’s one of the busier places in Italy I’ve seen so far. As I often do I tried tofocus my pictures on the architecture and avoid capturing the crowds. However understand that it was thoroughly over-capacity – there just didn’t seem to be an effective plan in place to limit the overcrowding and it really impacted the experience of being in the vicinity of such incredible architecture.
You can take a walk around the castle structure and around the outskirts of the town on the lake, where I got some of the better photos. I’m pretty pleased with myself for getting the photos that I got without capturing too many people in it – no easy feat.
There are a great many towns around Lake Garda, so hopefully in my other visits I can find the hidden gems. In any case, there’s so many good seaside vibes to photograph here and the dining is actually pretty good value for Europe (which surprised me) – so more of this to come.
