I’ve escaped from the densely overgrown paths of Mount Vesuvius down past the confused Carabineri and Park Rangers and I’m off on my return ride of about 31km back to Sorrento.

The ride down the last part of the descent was fantastic, flying past numerous venues (including one hosting a wedding) and some amazing houses scattered along the roads leading from Vesuvius.
Eventually I reached the coastline and was able to stop and take some shots of the beach. In the background towered Vesuvius like the sleeping giant it is. It was striking to think that just an hour ago I was over the other side of the cone basically lost.
Eventually as I powered up the coastline I started to hit the serene vistas of Sorrento and get some amazing photos over the Gulf of Naples back to Vesuvius and of the Sorrento coastline – real Amalfi Coast vibes here.
Arriving back in Sorrento this was to be the conclusion of one incredibly memorable adventure and one of the key things I wanted to do here in the south of Italy. While there were a few setbacks in terms of the planning of the journey in terms of finding the bicycle hire and not being familiar with the route, this experience was so unique and memorable I have to say looking back that it was totally worth the effort.
With this key activity done I’m gearing up to change course once again for more adventures. Stay tuned to see how I go.
