Dark Light

Back to where it all started

This is a flashback to my first trip to Italy, on school exchange. Since the trip I’ve wanted to return to Italy and do Europe more broadly – but for so many life reasons (that now seem insignificant) I never stopped to do it.

I didn’t take many photos on my trip, but there is at least a decent video journal of the places we saw – here’s some samples.

Mestre

We started the journey in Mestre, where I met my amazing host family, and settled in to where I would be based for the next month.

We took amazing day trips from Mestre, many to Venice and then more to Bolzano, Verona, Bologna, Milano and Treviso.

Firenze

We have a great time in Florence, doing climbs of the Duomo and the tower to get sweeping views of the city. We also saw the famous art like the Statue of David and toured around the Ponte Vecchio, and did the mandatory day trip over to Pisa.

Roma e Citta Vaticana

We stayed very close to Roma Termini station and from there launched tours of the Spanish Steps, the Vatican City, the Colosseum, the Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon and the Roman Forum. We were only in Rome for a few days but it was quite amazing how much we managed to get done.

The trip continues

Although it feels like a lifetime ago – the experience of having the exchange was incredible. I swore to return and do a more complete trip of Italy and hopefully pick up even more of the language. It’s incredible to be able to finally do it and bring it all here onto this space.
